A warm welcome awaits everyone who enters Londonderry Primary School

We aim to educate, encourage and care for everyone in our school community. Here, in our modern, up to date facilities which are set in extensive grounds. We have spacious accommodation comprising of 14 classrooms, 2 SEN rooms, a resource room for P1 and P2 play, Assembly/PE Hall, ICT suite, Meals Kitchen, Dining Hall, an after-schools mobile and a large outdoor area.  Our outdoor space includes two large playgrounds, an outdoor classroom, a polytunnel, an orchard, two small cabins for play and a variety of outdoor seating areas.
Londonderry Primary is so much more than mere facts and statistics. You need to know that we want what you want for your child – that they will enjoy, be happy, and be safe in school.

We are proud of our high standards of teaching and learning. Our team of 17 teachers and our Principal work in cooperation with 42 non-teaching staff to prepare and deliver lessons to engage every learner. These lessons develop essential skills and promote the ability to apply these skills across the whole curriculum.

Children learn in different ways and at different stages. Through planned progression, we will always seek to meet every child’s individual needs by extending their learning through boost classes by supporting those who may find some aspects difficult. We have a specialist SEN teacher who provides teaching and support for children and staff throughout school, tailored to their individual needs and abilities.

We seek to work in partnership with you. A high standard of work, self-discipline and personal achievement is expected through close cooperation with our parents. Regular contact, both formal and informal, is encouraged through interviews and our wonderful Parent Teacher Association. During the lockdown, our staff provided excellent work and feedback through Google Classroom, which has helped to maintain these high standards.

Not all children are alike, and they have many varied interests beyond the classroom. We offer an extensive number of extra-curricular activities which enable our pupils to develop their strengths and unique talents.  We currently run the following clubs - football, netball, tag rugby, Scripture Union, hockey, junior and senior choirs, digital technology club, cycling proficiency, board games, art, drama and African drumming.  We also offer other activities in the school run by outside agencies, including music tuition (string, flute and clarinet).

Pastoral care is a very important part of our school life. We seek to celebrate achievements, big and small, in the classroom and as a school through our positive behaviour policy. We celebrate all aspects of the curriculum such as Literacy, Numeracy, ICT, Art, PE, and endeavour with our STARS OF THE WEEK.

We offer wrap-around provision, which is run by school staff. Children can arrive at school from 7:55 am each morning, and it is lovely to hear the echo of happy voices as staff and children get ready for the day. We also offer an After School Club which starts at 2 pm each day and runs until 5:00 pm. Holiday schemes also run over Halloween, Easter and through the Summer to help those who need childcare at a very reasonable cost.

We also promote the ethos of caring for ourselves and each other through Personal Development and Mutual Understanding lessons, Friendship Week, Internet Safety Week and the promotion of Healthy Eating. Our P1-3 pupils can take advantage of a healthy break provided at a small charge every day. Pupils also participate in peer learning, playing together and through activities that develop Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities.

We have a School Council made up of pupils from P4 to P7 and a wonderful Eco-team who come from throughout the school. In 2019 the Eco-team successfully maintained our Green Flag status and we are working towards being an Ambassador school.

The school aims to promote intellectual, physical, moral, cultural and spiritual development in all our pupils, through a commitment to ensure that each child achieves their potential.
